The scholarships are available to students in Year 10, 11 and 12 studying at a NSW high school or TAFE. Young people currently completing a school-based apprenticeship, traineeship or VET subject can also apply.
Students can use the grant for:
- textbooks, workbooks, study guides or stationery
- specialist equipment
- course costs, excursions, study camps or sporting costs
- computer software, a printer or the internet
- childcare
- transport
- medical and support needs
- other relevant study materials, support services or living expenses.
Young people who are living in supported accommodation, are at risk of homelessness, have experienced domestic or family violence or have had contact with the justice system will be given priority access to the program.
Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services Gareth Ward said the scholarships will provide a helping hand for young people while they complete their studies.
"This is about giving vulnerable young people a pathway to independence while improving school and tertiary education rates," Mr Ward said.
The scholarship program has assisted more than 1000 students since 2017.
