Science and Innovation and ICT Minister Dave Kelly today officially launched applications for the second round of the McGowan Government's Science Industry PhD Fellowships program.
The program, which began last year, delivers on a McGowan Government election commitment to link-up PhD students with industry partners to gain hands-on experience in high growth areas.
Through the fellowship program each winner will receive $30,000 over three years, as well as training, mentoring and industry networking opportunities.
At a ceremony at Technology Park today (April 3), the Minister congratulated 11 young scientists, including four women, for winning the inaugural Science Industry PhD Fellowships earlier this year.
Round one recipients are working on a wide range of innovative projects including home automation, protecting critical infrastructure from cyber attack, developing new materials to repair tendon damage, and providing advice to beekeepers to maintain the health of their hives.
Applications for round two of this program are open until April 30, 2019. Funding for the program comes from the McGowan Government's $16.7 million New Industries Fund.
