The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works will hold a public hearing on 19 September 2022 to scrutinise the Department of Defence's proposed AIR7000 Phase 1B Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Facilities Project.
The project will support the introduction into service of the MQ-4C Triton aircraft system (Triton). Triton is a remotely piloted high altitude long endurance aerial system designed for maritime patrol and other surveillance roles; and is equipped with a sensor suite that provides it with a view of its surroundings for over 2,000 nautical miles.
At an estimated cost of $427.1 million the proposed project is intended to provide a control centre, training facilities, squadron headquarters, hangars, airfield pavements, aircraft wash point, and site wide engineering service which will support the operation of the Triton.
