Second community battery for Yarra

Mayor Cr. Sophie Wade with the Hon. Lily D'Ambrosio and Yarra Energy Foundation Chair, David Anstee

Yarra Energy Foundation is delivering a second community battery for Yarra, this time in Richmond, in partnership with the Victorian Government and Yarra City Council.

The battery was officially unveiled and launched by the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, the Hon Lily D'Ambrosio MP with representatives from YEF, Yarra City Council, Richmond Community Learning Centre, Melbourne Girls College and the local community.

The battery will be located at Burnley Backyard (which is run by the Richmond Community Learning Centre), connecting it and approximately 100 – 200 local properties, including Melbourne Girls College, to the network.

It will also include an EV charger onsite at Burnley Backyard.

"This is a fantastic collaboration between local and state governments which will deliver tangible outcomes for and with the community."

"Initiatives like this community battery will support Yarra's target of reaching 100% renewable energy by 2030."

"These initiatives also help to make renewables more accessible to everyone in our community, ensuring no one is left behind as we decarbonise our lives and our grid."

The first inner urban community battery was unveiled earlier this year in Fitzroy North.

This is the second round of the Neighbourhood Battery Initiative program from the Victorian Government, and the second major project to be delivered by the Yarra Energy Foundation under that Initiative.
