The Tasmanian Government has released the Rural Water Use Strategy Progress Report for 2025, highlighting the strong progress made in collaboration with various water management agencies.
The Rural Water Use Strategy serves as Tasmania's long-term blueprint for managing freshwater resources to support rural communities, industry, and the environment.
Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Gavin Peace said the Government was getting on with the job.
"We know how important it is to responsibly manage our water resources," Minister Pearce said.
"Over $60 million has been invested to deliver science, water infrastructure and policy initiatives under the Strategy since 2021, through partnerships with the Australian and Tasmanian Governments.
"The Progress Report 2025 shows strong results, including the surveying of over 500 groundwater bores in the Smithton Syncline area, engaging with King and Flinders Island communities on water security issues, completing biological sampling at 75 sites to better understand drivers of change in waterway health, and much more.
"We continue to build on this work and deliver for Tasmania, investing an additional $440,000 to continue to deliver the Strategy's vision."
The next phase of the Strategy brings a focus to improved data transparency, infrastructure investment, and adaptive planning for climate variability.
