Selfs Point Transformation Reaches Key Milestone

Tasmanian Government

Eric Abetz, Treasurer

The Selfs Point upgrade has seen more than 6,500 cubic metres of concrete poured as the project hits the halfway mark.
The Selfs Point Sewer Transformation project unlocks capacity for 8,000 new homes in Greater Hobart, with potential for up to a further 20,000 in future expansions.
Treasurer Eric Abetz was onsite today to see the strong progress made by TasWater.
"The foundations are in, and Selfs Point is ready to launch into the next phase of development," the Treasurer said.
"So far, some 6,500 cubic metres of concrete has been poured into the site – equating to around 300 average houses.
"This construction represents jobs and productivity for not just Hobart, but the entire region.
"The full project is expected to support 3,420 jobs, generate $1.1 billion in economic activity, and provide modern, resilient wastewater services for the next 50 years.
"Importantly, this project unlocks capacity for 8,000 new homes in Greater Hobart, with potential for up a further 20,000 in future expansions.
"Our Liberal Government is investing for Tasmania's future, helping to keep our economy strong and create jobs.
"This development ticks all of the boxes – it will improve the overall health of the Derwent, employ Tasmanians, generate significant economic activity and give our biggest city room to move.
"I am looking forward to seeing the positive impact this completed development will have on Hobart and surrounds."
