Seniors Festival Celebrates Vibrant Living

Seniors Festival returns to Wollongong for 2026, inviting older people to get out and try something new, embrace a former favourite activity or reconnect with a past passion.

The annual state-wide festival will be held between Monday 2 March to Sunday 15 March 2026 and is for people aged 60 years and over, 50 years and over for Aboriginal people and people with a life-long disability.

The Wollongong program encourages older people to be inspired and connect through activities such as bush dancing, discovering forgotten local heroes of the Illawarra, Bridgerton-inspired workshops, singalongs, free trishaw rides along the beach and more.

The festival theme for 2026 is Live Life in Colour, and Lord Mayor of Wollongong, Councillor Tania Brown believes this is a wonderful sentiment for our older community to embrace the joys of everyday life and the friendships that make it even brighter.

"Seniors Festival is a great excuse to uplift the older people in our community and applaud their ongoing contribution to our city," she said.

"Thanks to the support of local groups and organisations, we've collated a diverse two-week program that invites older people to learn, create and connect. From indoor workshops to outdoor activities, there's a bit of something for everyone. Most of the activities are free, so all you need to do is show up and enjoy – maybe even grab a few friends to come along too.

"I also can't wait to see the smiling faces at the Lord Mayor's Afternoon Tea Dance! It's a highlight on my social calendar, and I know it's for many others.

"So, I'm calling all local seniors to make the most of the festival and celebrate one another. As people get older, it becomes harder to stay connected so events like this are so important, especially for one's mental health.

"No matter where you find yourself during the two weeks, just remember to embrace those around you, strengthen your community ties and have fun."

The ever-popular Lord Mayor's Afternoon Tea Dance will be held on Tuesday 10 March from 1-3pm at Wollongong Town Hall. Free tickets are available from Monday 16 February. More details are on our website .
