September Sittings To Keep Territory On Track

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government will keep putting Territorians first as the September Parliamentary Sittings get underway this week.

This week the Government will pass the Parole Amendment Bill 2021 to boost the independence, impartiality and accountability of the Parole Board.

Another Bill up for debate this week is the Health Legislation Amendment Bill 2021 which amends the Notifiable Diseases Act and Transplantation and Anatomy Act.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner will deliver a Closing the Gap statement to update Territorians on progress towards achieving targets. Last month, the Territory Government submitted a Closing the Gap Implementation Plan to map a path to achieve priority reforms.

A climate change ministerial report will also be given to update Territorians on our progress towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

Additionally, Bills to be introduced this week include the Electricity Reform Legislation Amendment Bill and the Environment Legislation Amendment Bill 2021.

Incoming Member for Daly Dheran Young will also be sworn in this week.

Mr Young is the first Government Member of the Legislative Assembly to win a seat from an Opposition Party at a by-election and has already hit the ground running as a community champion for the Daly electorate.

Quotes from Leader of Government Business Natasha Fyles:

"The Territory Labor Government is putting forward legislation this week which will cut red tape and improve transparency.

"We look forward to seeing the new Labor Member for Daly Dheran Young sworn in as he will be a fierce advocate for the people of Daly and provide strong representation."
