Service Changes And Safety Advice For Extreme Heat 30 January

Wentworth Shire

Severe heat conditions continue across Wentworth Shire, with temperatures remaining in the forties over the coming days.

The community is asked to plan ahead, take precautions to stay cool and check in on vulnerable family members, friends and neighbours.

Waste facility operating hours will remain as previously advised for the weekend.

To protect the safety of staff and the community, the following arrangements continue:

Buronga Landfill

Open 6am-1pm (early open, early close)

Last entry at 12.45pm to allow for cover and compaction

Dareton Transfer Station

Open Saturday 1 February

Normal hours, 9am-12pm

Ellerslie Transfer Station & Pomona Tip: Closed

Wentworth Transfer Station

Open Sunday 2 February

9am-12pm (early close)

Fire safety reminders

• Do not mow or slash during extreme heat conditions

• Check current fire restrictions and Total Fire Bans before undertaking any activity

• If travelling, carry extra water and plan for vehicle breakdowns in extreme heat

Staying safe in the heat

• Limit time outdoors and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day

• Drink water regularly and avoid alcohol and sugary drinks

• Seek shade or air-conditioned spaces where possible

Medical emergencies

Heatstroke is life-threatening. Symptoms may include confusion, lack of sweating and a very high body temperature (above 40 Celsius). Call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
