Severe weather update

  • There is an emergency warning in place for the flooding in Albert and Logan River catchments.
  • While the heavy rainfall affecting the Gold Coast has now eased we are urging residents to continue to remain vigilant.
  • We have many closed roads across the Gold Coast or roads affected by flash flooding.
  • While we have crews out assessing the damage caused by this severe weather event. We're asking residents to only leave their homes for essential travel.
  • Flooding is expected at major levels on the north of the Gold Coast in the Albert and Logan River catchments.
  • Over the past 48 hours (since 27 February) City of Gold Coast has issued 5 emergency alerts – across Tallebudgera and Currumbin and Albert and Logan catchments.
  • We currently have evacuation assembly points open. The best thing is to seek shelter with friends and family where possible.

    Evacuation assembly areas are located at:

    • ­Ormeau Community Centre - 3 Cuthbert Dr, Ormeau (Open 24/7)
    • ­Reedy Creek Waste & Recycling Centre, 61 Hutchinson St, Burleigh Heads. (Open until 6am Tuesday 29 February)
  • Domestic pets are permitted at evacuation assembly points
  • Sandbagging stations are open 6am to 6pm today however PLEASE ONLY go there if it is safe to do so. Pimpama sandbagging stations is the only station operating from tomorrow.
  • Stay away from waterways, flooded areas and storm channels – they're not a place to play today. There's debris, submerged objects and dangerous currents.
  • Beaches are closed today and will be closed again tomorrow due to dangerous conditions.
  • Remember - if it's flooded forget it. Stay out of floodwaters.
