BOM

Issued at 2:30pm AEDT on Thursday 31 March 2022

Heavy rainfall is expected between Onslow and Kalbarri on Thursday and Friday as a tropical low moves towards the northwest of Western Australia.

The topical low is expected to move southwards off west Pilbara and west Gascoyne during Thursday and Friday.

Heavy rainfall may cause significant river level rises and localised flooding on Thursday and Friday, and damaging wind gusts up to 100 kilometres per hour are possible.

Parts of the Wheat Belt, Central West and Gascoyne have seen river rises and flash flooding following severe storm activity since Saturday, 26 March 2022.

The Great Northern Highway from Mount Magnet to Paynes Find has been closed due to flooding and it is possible the Northwest Coastal Highway between Burkett Road turnoff and Geraldton may be closed due to flooding later in the week.

The Bureau is recommending communities stay up to date with the latest Bureau warnings through the Bureau's website (www.bom.gov.au/wa/warnings/) and BOM Weather app and follow the advice of emergency services.
