Council will soon begin pedestrian and traffic safety upgrades at the intersection of Station Street and Wallis Street in Seymour.
Delivered in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission's Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, the project will improve safety and accessibility in one of Seymour's busiest shopping areas.
What is included in the project?
- A raised pedestrian crossing on Station Street near the roundabout with Wallis Street
- A raised pedestrian crossing on Wallis Street near the roundabout with Station Street
- One new accessible car parking bay
- Associated road and footpath upgrades
When is it happening?
Construction will start on Monday 13 April and is expected to be completed by Friday 22 May, weather permitting. Works will begin on Wallis Street before moving to Station Street.
What impacts will the work have?
- Traffic management
- Reduced speed limits
- Single-lane closures and short detours
- A full closure of Station Street is currently planned for two nights in May. Exact dates will be confirmed closer to the works and advance notice will be provided.
- Drivers should allow extra travel time and follow traffic controllers and signage.
- Access to homes, businesses and surrounding streets will be maintained although short delays may occur.
- Pedestrian access along shop fronts will remain open at all times.
