We are protecting Australia's native species as we transition to clean energy.

The Renewables Environmental Research Initiative (RERI) is running a series of consultations. You're invited to have your say on draft regulatory guidance under the EPBC Act.

RERI creates science‑backed research and guidance that:

  • is shaped by experts
  • better protects our native species
  • supports efficient assessments of new development proposals.

The goal is to provide clear, accurate information about different species and how to reduce impacts. This will help make environmental assessments faster and more consistent.

We are seeking feedback on several projects over the coming months. These include:

  • guidance for over 30 species
  • standardised survey protocols to support consistent, high quality data collection
  • approaches to avoid and mitigate collision risks associated with wind farms.

Consultations run from March to June 2026.
