Australian swimming star Shayna Jack has this week been announced as the face of The Long Run 2025, joining the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) to inspire Australians to cover 72km during September in support of men affected by prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men, with around 26,300 men expected to be diagnosed this year.
The Long Run is PCFA's national fundraising challenge, encouraging participants to walk, run, ride or swim 72km throughout September - representing the 72 Australian men diagnosed with prostate cancer every day.
Funds raised help provide life-saving research, vital support services, and awareness programs.
For Ms Jack, this cause is deeply personal. Her father, Stu, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2023.
"When Dad was diagnosed, it really shook our family," Ms Jack said.
"We quickly realised how important it is for men to get checked early and to have the correct information and support.
"Watching dad go through treatment opened my eyes to the impact this disease has, not just on men, but on their partners, children, and everyone who loves them.
"That's why The Long Run means so much to me - it's a way to stand with families like mine and make a real difference," Ms Jack said.
PCFA's General Manager of Fundraising Events, Joanne Jones, said Shayna's involvement will give the event a powerful new wave of momentum.
"We are thrilled to have Shayna Jack on board for The Long Run 2025," Ms Jones said.
"Her dedication, resilience, and passion for the community make her a perfect fit to lead this year's event. Shayna will inspire thousands of Australians to get moving, have fun, and make a difference for men and families affected by prostate cancer.
"With 11 men dying from prostate cancer in Australia every day, we must do everything we can to change the story, and The Long Run will help us achieve that."
Locals who sign up and raise $50 or more by September 1 will also receive a free event T-shirt.
