Ida Fazlic, a PhD student with Prof. Katrien Keune at the Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences and the Rijksmuseum, contributed to research shedding light on the painting methods of Leonardo da Vinci. The results, published earlier this month in the chemistry journal JACS, show the presence of a very uncommon compound in both the Mona Lisa's ground layer and the Last Supper's ground and paint layers.
