Shellharbour City Council is set to receive over $2.5 million for the delivery of the Reddall Reserve Promenade renewal project.
The renewal project will provide new and improved foreshore seating, increased pedestrian accessibility, improved stormwater provisions, reduced maintenance and provide greater connection to the wider Reserve.
Funded by the NSW Government, the Public Spaces Legacy Program initiative funds new and improved public open spaces to ensure a legacy and to provide health, wellbeing and economic benefits to boost the COVID-19 economic recovery.
The funding is part of $250 million going towards over 100 public open space projects in 60 council areas across NSW.
Council has been working with landscape architects to develop concept designs for the Reddall Reserve Promenade.
The design incorporates feedback from the community identified in the Reddall Reserve Masterplan.
To access the funding, Shellharbour City Council was required to demonstrate improvements in development assessment timeframes and develop enhanced processes that helped to reduce 'red tape' when processing Development Applications. The aim is to keep the broader economy moving and bolster the construction industry.
Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer said securing the funding was a collaborative effort by many teams across Council.
"This funding is important to our community as it will significantly improve one of the city's most
popular outdoor spaces. These spaces connect us, inspire us and make us healthier, happier."
Mayor Homer said.
"The eligibility criteria included finalisation of Council's Local Strategic Planning Statement and
long-standing rezoning planning proposal applications," he said.
