Shooting Australia announces its 2021 performance series winners

The 2021 Shooting Australia Performances Series has concluded with the winners announced during Tuesday evenings Awards of Excellence.

This domestic series of endorsed events provided a platform to encourage greater participation in the ISSF disciplines and offer an all-inclusive opportunity to participate in a national domestic competition series. The Performance Series enabled athletes a number of opportunities to record a performance score with the events in the first half of 2021 used as a significant component in the preparation of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Teams.

The events were held in conjunction with a Club, State Association or National Association and captured pistol, rifle, shotgun and full-bore disciplines. Shooting Australia partnered with the event hosts and provided support as required in the event delivery.

Able bodied (ISSF) and para athletes (WSPS) had the ability to compete in the Performance Series with the events capturing men, women, senior and junior competitors. Shooting Australia's Event Coordinator Jane Vella mentioned that "some of these events were also run as open events and it was amazing to see both men and women, young and old, competing together on the same line. Participation levels were high across the year with approximately 100 athletes competing in at least one pistol or rifle event and approximately 250 athletes competing in at least one shotgun event. The momentum is definitely growing in the ISSF space within Australia."

The Performance Series was also an opportunity for ISSF accredited officials to remain active as well as an opportunity to utilise their knowledge and experience to encourage others to become active in ISSF officiating.

Vella acknowledged that the 2021 Performance Series would not have been possible without the enormous support from the target shooting community encompassing athletes, their support networks, the officials and volunteers and of course all of the event partners. There were times when border closures and restrictions resulted in event cancellations or postponements and even forced some events to pivot to an online remote competition format. Everyone was so committed to giving athletes the best possible competition opportunities and for this Shooting Australia is truly thankful. We look forward to the endorsed events program for 2022!"

At each Performance Series event, competitors were awarded points based on their finishing position only. Performance Series points were awarded from 1st place to 15th place
