According to the Bureau of Meteorology, March 2021 has seen 819.2mm of rain as at 26 March, versus the mean rainfall of 162.9mm for this month, as measured from the Kempsey Airport.

For days this past week, it seemed as though the rain would never let up.

As a result, homes have been flooded, livestock and family pets have been lost and many have been cut off from key resources such as food, hay, access to medical care, veterinary services and more.

As the grass begins to peek through the receding floodwaters, the residents of Kempsey Shire seem to be emerging from this disaster more connected than ever.

Local communities have come together in amazing ways these past few days to support the people around them. They have been out there each day, setting aside their own personal challenges, helping elderly people access food and medical supplies, unloading food from trucks delivering supplies to isolated communities, rescuing stray livestock stranded in deep flood waters and warmly welcoming friends in need into their homes.

While there is much work to be done to recover from this disaster, it is an absolute thing of beauty to know that during times such as these, the infinitley kindhearted people of Kempsey Shire will always be there for each other.
