Sod Turned On New Retail Precinct In Beveridge

The next stage of Beveridge's retail and community growth is underway, with a sod turn marking the start of works on a new retail precinct at the eastern corner of Lithgow Street and Mallaig Drive.

The precinct, which will be known as Beveridge Village, will feature 14 retail shops and a childcare facility, including a small supermarket, laundromat, barber, and more, giving residents more options closer to home and supporting the needs of Beveridge's rapidly growing population. The developer Oreana is aiming to have the site open in the second quarter of 2026.

Mitchell Shire Mayor John Dougall said the sod turn was an exciting milestone for the Beveridge community.

"Beveridge is one of the fastest-growing parts of Victoria, and projects like this are vital to ensure residents have access to the services and facilities they need," he said.

"This new precinct will create more local jobs, provide greater convenience for families, and add to the sense of community that is continuing to build here in Beveridge."

The Lithgow Street and Mallaig Drive precinct is one of several major retail developments underway across Beveridge.

A planning permit has also been approved to support the construction of a Coles supermarket on the west side of the corner of Camerons Lane and Patterson Road.

This upcoming store promises convenient access to groceries and everyday essentials and is eagerly anticipated by local residents. The developer is aiming to open the supermarket in the second half of 2026.

Additionally, a planning permit application is currently under consideration for another supermarket, along with fast-food outlets and supporting retail spaces set around a small town square on the east side of Camerons Lane and Patterson Road.

Council is also working with developers and the State and Federal Governments on a range of other projects to support Beveridge's growth, including:

  • New roundabouts at Patterson Road/Lithgow Street, Lewis Street/Whiteside Street, and Spring Street/Lithgow Street
  • Intersection upgrades at the Old Hume Highway and Lithgow Street/Hume Freeway on-ramp
  • A full upgrade of Lithgow Street (east of Spring Street) over the next 12 months, delivering bus-capable lanes, footpaths on both sides, and a dedicated cycle lane
  • A roundabout at the Hume Freeway ramps and Lithgow Street, expected within 18-24 months subject to approvals
  • The expansion of the Greater Beveridge Community Centre, expected to be completed in late 2025.
  • A new park at Templemore Road in the Lyra Estate
  • Progress on the Camerons Lane Interchange

Councillor Dougall said Council was committed to working alongside developers and government partners to deliver the infrastructure and facilities Beveridge needs.

"As Beveridge continues to grow, we need to make sure we're not just building houses but creating complete communities," he said.

"Developments like this one help deliver on that vision - bringing shops, services, and opportunities for social connection right to people's doorsteps.

"Alongside new retail, we're also pushing hard for the Victorian Government to deliver the Camerons Lane interchange as soon as possible, because we know how critical it is for easing congestion and unlocking Beveridge's future growth.

"With road upgrades, new roundabouts, drainage improvements and expanded community facilities also on the way, Council is determined to make sure Beveridge residents get the services and infrastructure they need now and into the future."
