The University of Tübingen joins scholars and scientists from around the world in strongly condemning the Russian attack on Ukraine. "We are horrified and deeply concerned about what is happening in Kiev and the whole country and will support students as well as researchers in need," said Professor Monique Scheer, Vice-President for International Affairs. The university is in contact with its cooperation partners at Taras Shevchenko University in Kiev, offers support services as part of its membership in Scholars at Risk, and will seek support for refugee students and researchers. At the moment, no Tübingen students are staying in Kiev as part of our exchange agreement. The International Office is in contact with four Tübingen students who are currently in Moscow.
A total of 52 students with Ukrainian citizenship are currently enrolled at the University of Tübingen, including 14 doctoral students. The University's leadership is with them and their families in their thoughts during this highly uncertain time. With its expression of solidarity, also together with its European university alliance CIVIS, it reaffirms the university's commitment to respect for human dignity, freedom of opinion and speech, and freedom of science and research, as set out in its mission statement.
