Solve Your Tricky Recycling Queries Easily

Sunshine Coast Council

Did you know that aluminium and steel household aerosols can be recycled?

Figuring out what items can be recycled can sometimes be confusing.

To help get your recycling sorted, Sunshine Coast Council will be popping up at local shopping centres until September to answer your tricky questions in person.

This initiative is supported by the Queensland Government's Recycling and Jobs Fund.

The Council team will be at the Sunshine Plaza, Nambour Plaza, Kawana Shopping World and Caloundra Shopping Centre at multiple dates and times in 2025.

Environment and Liveability Portfolio Councillor Maria Suarez said recycling correctly at home helped to make sure our region's recyclables were given their best chance of being repurposed.

"We want to share the message that everyone can make a difference just by putting the right thing in the bin at home," Cr Suarez said.

"These recycling pop-ups are located at local shopping centres, where people can conveniently stop by to ask their questions.

"It's another way Council is working with our community to nurture and enhance our environment and quality of life."

There have already been a few pop ups to date, with residents showing a keen interest in improving their recycling habits.

The most common questions from residents were about the disposal of lids and whether Tetra Paks could be placed in yellow recycling bins.

Many were surprised to learn that aluminium and steel household aerosols are recyclable.

There's a fun recycling sorting game to play as well as waste and recycling collection calendars, bin stickers, and models to make of waste, recycling and garden organics bin trucks.

If you can't make it to one of the pop ups, Council recommends downloading the handy RecycleMate app.

Using Recycle Mate is the easiest option to find out what can be recycled and where to take your tricky items.

Simply search your item and you'll be given information on the best disposal option that's nearest to you. Visit recyclemate.com.au to begin your search.
