South Australia Covid update as at 8 January 2022

There have been 4,274 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 25,877 active cases in South Australia.

Sadly, SA Health can confirm a woman in her 50s, two women in their 90s, one man in his 60s and one man in his 70s who tested positive for COVID-19 have passed away.

There are 164 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including 16 people in ICU and two requiring a ventilator.

Of those hospitalised, 93 people are fully vaccinated, 11 are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and 60 have an unknown vaccination status.

    Variants

    Regular genome sampling is taken to monitor the levels of Omicron within South Australia. Eighty one percent of samples taken returned an Omicron result.

    Yesterday, 1.6 million were used using the COVID Safe Check in app.

    COVID testing

    Yesterday, 24,784 people received a PCR test in South Australia, a 21% percent increase on the previous 24 hours.

    Vaccination update

    Currently 92.9% of eligible South Australians aged 12+ have received their first dose of the vaccine, 88.8% have received their second dose and there were 15,915 booster shots given yesterday bringing the total booster shots to 231,081.
