COVID cases in SA

There have been 569 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 2,795 active cases in South Australia.

Following a reconciliation of data received from Births, Deaths and Marriages SA yesterday afternoon, SA Health has identified 63 people who tested positive for COVID-19 who passed away between 27 April 2022 and 18 August 2022 who have not been previously recorded. These deaths have been added to today's report.

BDM data on deaths is provided on a monthly basis to the SA Health Communicable Disease Control Branch (CDCB) who undertake a data reconciliation with case data, a process that has identified these additional deaths.

The deaths include a woman in her 50s, five women in their 70s, 11 women in their 80s, 19 women in their 90s, two men in their 40s, one man in his 50s, one man in his 60s, two men in their 70s, nine men in their 80s, 10 men in their 90s and two people in their 80s whose gender is unavailable.

There are 77 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including eight people in ICU. Of those hospitalised, 57 people have received three or more vaccine doses, 18 people are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and two have an unknown vaccination status.

Due to a reconfiguration of the data, the total number of cases has been readjusted.

Variants

The latest genome sampling has found 2.2% of samples analysed were BA.2, 5.6% of samples analysed were BA.4 and 89.9% of samples analysed were BA.5 or related variant.

COVID testing

Yesterday, 4,268 people received a PCR test in South Australia, which is a 3.2% decrease on the previous 24 hours. Of the test results returned yesterday, 287 PCR tests were positive, while 282 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.

Vaccination update

Currently 96.2% of eligible South Australians aged 12+ have received their first dose of the vaccine and 94.3% have received their second dose. Boosters have been administered to 75% of eligible South Australians and 70.9% of South Australians aged 16+.
