Construction is underway on 50 new social and affordable rentals for people aged 55 and over in Dalyellup.

Bethanie Housing's $35.4 million project has received a $9.8 million grant from the Cook Labor Government, and a $23.1 million loan from the Albanese Labor Government through the Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF).

Thirty-two apartments will be allocated for those on the social housing waitlist, and the remaining 18 apartments will be allocated as affordable rentals.

All apartments will be accessible and energy efficient, built to a Silver Livable Housing standard and a 7-star Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme rating.

Residents will have access to the adjacent Bethanie Housing Limited facility, which features a men's shed, a communal games area, and a multi-use auditorium.

Construction is anticipated to be completed in 2027.

The Cook Labor Government is investing a record $10.8 billion in housing and homelessness since 2021, including $1.8 billion in projects also supported by the HAFF.

As stated by Housing and Works Minister John Carey:

"Our government's investment in build-to-rent projects is supercharging the delivery of social homes and affordable rentals, and it's great to see this important development for the South West now underway.

"This partnership with Bethanie Community Housing and the Federal Government will deliver homes for people aged over 55, which are one of the largest cohorts of people in need of social and affordable housing."

As stated by South West Minister and Bunbury MLA Don Punch:

"This Dalyellup project will deliver more safe, accessible homes for seniors in the greater Bunbury area, including social and affordable options for those who need them most.

"It is a welcome addition to our community and adds to the more than 235 social homes already delivered in the South West since 2021."

As stated by WA Senator Ellie Whiteaker:

"Older Western Australians have spent their lives contributing to their communities, and they deserve to live out their later years with dignity and security.

"These 50 new homes in Dalyellup will give people aged over 55 a place they can truly call home.

"I'd like to thank Federal Housing Minister Clare O'Neil for championing investments though the HAFF in WA's South West.

"Projects like this show what's possible when the Albanese Labor Government and the Cook Labor Government work hand in hand for our communities."
