NSW Police are urging spectators to plan their trips ahead of the 10-day FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup at the Sydney Olympic Park.
Event organisers are expecting large crowds from today (Thursday 22 September 2022), through to Saturday 1 October 2022, as the competition takes place at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre and the Sydney SuperDome.
Operation FIBA 2022, a high-visibility police operation, will be in place for the duration of the event to ensure the safety and security of all participants, event staff, attendees, and the wider community.
Operation Commander, Superintendent Danielle Emerton, urged attendees to plan their trip to avoid any parking issues and significant delays.
"Our best advice is to plan ahead and allow yourself extra travel time to avoid any last-minute stress," Supt Emerton said.
"Designated onsite parking is available; however, road closures will be in place throughout Sydney Olympic Park to support the events.
"If you must drive, carpool where possible and pre-book your parking as the car parks are likely to fill," she said.
Supt Emerton also said spectators should consider utilising public transport services on offer as several other significant sporting and entertainment events will be taking place during this time within the Sydney Olympic Park.
"With tens of thousands of people expected to attend Sydney Olympic Park over the ten days, we encourage spectators to take the hassle out of travel plans and utilise public transport," Supt Emerton said.
