Greensborough Highway Patrol nabbed a driver for excessive speed in Fawkner earlier this morning.
Police were patrolling near the Sydney Road exit about 8am when they observed a car travelling at 173km/h in a 70km/h zone.
Members intercepted the driver, an 18-year-old man from Craigieburn, who'd had his licence for less than three months.
His car was impounded at a cost of $873 and he has been charged with traffic-related offences.
