The spirit of Christmas has arrived in the Central Goldfields with the installation of Christmas decorations underway across the Shire.

Decorations have been installed across our Shire at Carisbrook, Talbot, Bealiba, Dunolly and Majorca, with the final touch being the large tree in Maryborough's High Street roundabout later this week.

In support of the Central Goldfield Shire business community, Council is proud to be again supporting The Maryborough District Advertiser's annual Christmas Shopping Promotion.

Just by shopping in a participating local business you'll be in the running to win weekly prizes between $250 and $500. Prizes will be Shop Local vouchers as well as individual business vouchers.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Liesbeth Long said seeing the Christmas decorations roll out across the Shire was always an exciting time of the year.

"Our Christmas displays across our townships have been extended the past few years, to spread around the Christmas cheer it brings to our whole community.

"We also encourage residents to support our local business community this festive period – whether it is doing your Christmas shopping or catching up with friends and family at our local hospitality venues – we encourage you to shop local!

"There's also a number of fabulous Christmas markets and events scheduled in townships in the coming weeks – please support them if you can."
