Sports Ground Lighting Upgrades

We're planning lighting upgrades at sports grounds in Malvern, Malvern East and Glen Iris and we want to hear your feedback on the proposal.

The proposed upgrades will enhance the existing sports lighting, improve safety and extend the hours that the park can be used for sports and active recreation.

Malvern Cricket Ground, Waverley Oval and T H King Oval are popular with local sports clubs, players, dog walkers and people out for a walk or jog.

The lighting at each location is outdated, in poor condition and does not meet current standards for sports lighting. The lighting is not suitable for renewal and the condition limits recreation activities, especially in the winter months when it gets darker in the early evening.

The new lighting proposed for the sports grounds are low-spill, energy-efficient LEDs that can be scheduled and adjusted to cater for active sporting activities or active recreation. The low spill LEDs are designed to direct the light to the immediate area only and not encroach on surrounding properties.

As each of these grounds has existing lighting, we are wanting your feedback to understand how you currently use the space and how we might schedule the improved lighting to meet recreation needs at each ground.

At the close of consultation, your views will be considered in a decision to progress these proposals.

Feedback will close Sunday 14 September 2025, visit Connect Stonnington to have your say.
