Spring into Household Chemical Cleanout

Eurobodalla residents can get rid of unwanted chemicals for free at Eurobodalla Council's annual Household Chemical Cleanout on the October long weekend.

The annual collection enables residents to take pesticides, gas bottles, paints, varnishes and more to designated drop-off points in Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma.

This year's cleanout was originally scheduled to take place 4-5 September, however Eurobodalla Council's waste services manager Nathan Ladmore said residents had another month to prepare.

"Residents have plenty of time to clear out their shed, garage, or under the kitchen sink and gather up chemicals that are no longer needed," he said.

"Many common household chemicals can cause harm to people and the environment if they're not disposed of correctly.

"Drop them off to the Household Chemical Cleanout and they'll be disposed of safely."

Items accepted include paints, fungicides, household batteries, oxidisers, weed killers, household cleaners, fuel, compact fluorescent light globes, oils, syringes, poisons, acids and alkalis, pool chemicals, gas cylinders, medicines, fertilisers and smoke detectors. Asbestos, explosives, clinical waste and radioactive materials will not be accepted.

The annual Household Chemical Cleanout is a COVID Safe event and will be held at:

  • Gundary Oval car park, Campbell Street, Moruya, on Saturday 2 October, 8am-2.30pm
  • Narooma Library car park, Graham Street, Narooma, on Sunday 3 October, 8am-2.30pm
  • Hanging Rock Boat Ramp, Hanging Rock Place, Batemans Bay, on Sunday 3 October, 8am-2.30pm.

The cleanout is a NSW Environmental Protection Authority 'Waste Less, Recycle More' initiative, partly funded from the NSW Government waste levy.
