The Clyde North community has a new hub for community sport and recreation with the official opening of the Springleaf Recreation Reserve on Thursday 16 July.
The reserve includes two full-size AFL and cricket ovals, three cricket practice nets, two netball courts, a new playground, a multi-purpose pavilion, car parking, a shared user path and public art.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said the value of community open spaces, like Springleaf Recreation Reserve, could not be overstated.
"Springleaf Recreation Reserve is a fantastic investment in our growing community, providing local families, children and sporting clubs with a place to be active, connect and come together. As Casey continues to grow, delivering quality community infrastructure like this is essential," he said.
"Council is proud to have worked in partnership with the Australian Government, to deliver this important community asset. We thank the Federal Government for their significant investment in helping bring this project to life."
Joining the opening last week, Senator Lisa Darmanin says "Springleaf Recreation Reserve will be a fantastic addition to Clyde North, giving local families a place to play sport and get involved close to home.
"Springleaf Recreation Reserve is more than a sporting facility, it's a place where the community and sport clubs like the Titans and the Strikers can come together and build the connections that make a community strong," she said.
"Congratulations to the leaders of the local clubs, whose dedication make this facility a reality and through hundreds of volunteer hours have helped build the strong community that will call Springleaf Recreation Reserve home."
Ward Councillor, Anthony Walter said the reserve would become home to several local clubs including the Berwick Springs Junior Football Club, Berwick Springs Netball Club and Berwick Strikers Cricket Club.
"Today we are celebrating more than a new sporting facility, we're celebrating a place where our community to come together, build friendships and create lasting memories, now and well into the future.
"Our local sporting clubs are the backbone of our community and it's wonderful that they have these outstanding facilities to support their continued growth and success." Cr Walter said.
The Springleaf Recreation Reserve was jointly funded with $9.2 million from the Federal Government's Thriving Suburbs Fund, $8 million from developer contributions and $1.2 million from the City of Casey.
Construction continues on the adjacent Springleaf Community Centre which is scheduled for completion late May 2027.
