Springvale South Armed Robbery Attempt Leads to Arrest

Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a teenager following the attempted theft of a bicycle in Springvale South last week.

Police have been told a 16-year-old Kew boy agreed to meet a man at a park on the corner of Springvale and Heatherton roads about 5.30pm on 8 August to sell a bicycle as part of an online social media sale.

It's alleged two men produced a machete when the victim got out of the car to do the sale and tried to steal the bicycle from the back of the car.

The victim's driver got out of the car and approached the offenders before they fled on foot empty-handed.

A 15-year-old Noble Park boy was arrested in Springvale this afternoon.

He has been released and is expected to be charged on summons with armed robbery related offences.

A second male is still outstanding, and investigations are ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam/CCTV footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
