SRSG on Migration and Refugees to visit Bulgaria

CoE/SRSG on Migration and Refugees

The Special Representative of the Secretary General on Migration and Refugees (SRSG), Leyla Kayacik is making a fact-finding visit to Bulgaria from 11 to 15 September.

The visit will focus on those in vulnerable situations, in particular unaccompanied and separated children, and is aimed at identifying the possibilities for the Council of Europe to provide support and expertise to the authorities in the framework of the Action Plan on Protecting Vulnerable Persons in the Context of Migration and Asylum in Europe (2021-2025).

Meetings are scheduled with the relevant state authorities, the Ombudsperson's Office, representatives of international organisations and NGOs. The Special Representative will visit registration and reception centres. A visit to a border crossing with Türkiye is also planned. A report on the fact-finding mission is forthcoming. The SRSG has already issued five reports, namely on Slovak Republic, Czech Republic, Poland, the Republic of Moldova and Romania, while the report on Hungary will be published shortly.
