A popular St Marys park is being revamped with a new mixed recreation space featuring a large playspace and mini pump track with beginner and intermediate loops.
Construction is underway at Bennett Park to replace the old playspace and learn-to-ride loop with modern infrastructure for children and young people of all ages to enjoy.
Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said that Bennett Park was one of several St Marys parks being upgraded this year.
"Council has plans to upgrade the playspaces at Poplar Park, Robin Wiles Park and Wattle Avenue Reserve this year, along with construction on the St Marys central park project which will create a new green civic heart in St Marys," Cr Carney said.
"This year we've also delivered upgraded playspaces at Cook Park and Margaret Porter Reserve, as well as a brand new playspace at Monfarville Reserve."
"We're creating a network of modern and inclusive playspaces which give young people in our local government area plenty of options to get outside and be active."
The playspace will feature a range of exciting equipment designed to appeal to teenagers and older children, including a cliff rider and canoe swing, alongside a variety of play options for younger children.
This project is funded by the NSW and Australian Governments in partnership with Penrith City Council.
Senator for New South Wales Tony Sheldon said the project is an investment into local families.
"Every family deserves a great local park, and that's exactly what Bennett Park will be, whether your kids are on the swings, the pump track, learning how to ride their bikes or just running around with their mates."
"Investing in spaces like this means local families don't have to travel far to find safe places for their kids to play and be active."
"The Australian Government will keep backing Western Sydney communities, every step of the way."
NSW Deputy Premier, Minister for Western Sydney and Member for Londonderry Prue Car MP said that local families deserve great local parks and open spaces.
"The new facilities at Bennett Park will give local children new and exciting places to enjoy, while creating a welcoming space for families to connect and stay active close to home.
"Working with Penrith City Council and the Commonwealth, we're delivering the infrastructure that growing communities need and making sure St Marys continues to be a great place to raise a family."
Landscaping will be undertaken and pathways, seating and shade will also be installed as part of the project. The park is anticipated to be open by early to mid 2027.
