Appointment of General Counsel

Martin Thomas has been appointed as General Counsel at the RBA, leading our Legal team. The team provides legal services to the RBA, manages legal risk, and provides strategic advice to support the delivery of our charter functions and priorities.

Martin brings more than 30 years of experience in financial services, banking and payments law. He joins us from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), where he was the Executive General Manager and General Counsel, Customer Services Legal. His career includes senior legal roles at Deutsche Bank and NAB, with deep expertise across domestic and international markets.

Martin holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales.

Martin will commence on 10 November 2025.
