The U.S. Department of State announced today that, through a new collaboration with the Middleburg Film Festival, five Ukrainian film producers and directors will travel to the United States to participate in the American Film Showcase, the United States' flagship international film diplomacy program. Through this new collaboration, these award-winning filmmakers will amplify the importance of Ukrainian culture and cinematic storytelling and will discuss their recent work during a panel discussion Through Their Own Lens: The Power of Ukrainian Narratives in Cinema on Sunday at the Middleburg Film Festival in Middleburg, Virginia. In addition, the Ukrainian film delegation will meet and engage with leading American film industry executives both in New York and Washington, D.C.

Film diplomacy is part of the United States' vast diplomatic efforts to promote peace and democracy worldwide and supports broader U.S. efforts to achieve key foreign policy goals by expanding access to education, economic equity - including in the creative economy, and societal opportunity and inclusion.

Since 2012, the American Film Showcase has engaged filmmakers and audiences in over 130 countries, held more than 4,000 screenings of American films, and sent leading American filmmakers and film experts to mentor more than 2,000 global filmmakers. It is implemented and produced by the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts.
