State Plans New Worker Housing in Ararat

As part of an initiative to support regional workers, the State Government is backing the construction of 25 new homes in Ararat, a project that is expected to create jobs and support economic growth in the region.

The Regional Worker Accommodation Fund helps regional communities by investing in housing and infrastructure. Its goal is to provide affordable homes for key workers and their families, which in turn boosts local opportunities and liveability.

This initiative is part of a record $47 billion investment from the State Government to drive economic growth over the next ten years and make Victoria's regions even better places to live, work, stay, experience, invest and study.

The new homes will help to meet demand for housing from key worker sectors, such as health, education, and corrections.

They will also meet worker housing needs for industries that underpin the local economy, including AME Systems, Gason, Ararat Meat Exports and other businesses that are struggling to recruit workers due to lack of quality, affordable housing.

The construction of the new homes in Ararat will support local jobs across the housing construction sector, ensuring the project is delivered mostly by and for regional workers.

"To ensure our community continues to thrive well into the future, we need to be able to attract and retain a skilled workforce," says Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison.

"By increasing the supply of affordable housing and accommodation options, this will ensure that new workers and their families have a place to call home, as well ensuring that our local employers are able to meet their operational needs."
