Statement From Attorney-General 17 February

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity The Honourable Deb Frecklington

I welcome today's decision of the Court of Appeal in relation to the sentence originally imposed in the Roma District Court 31 July 2025.

Floyd Norman Daniel was convicted of multiple serious offences, including assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence) and committing a malicious act with intent.

In my view, the original sentence imposed did not adequately reflect the gravity of the offending or the serious harm caused to the victims.

As a result of today's decision, the offender will now serve an additional nine months' imprisonment before being eligible for parole.

My thoughts remain with the victims of these crimes, including the police involved, who perform extraordinarily difficult work to make Queensland safer every day.
