Statement on Bk 2 Basics - City of Casey

The City of Casey appreciates the assistance that Bk 2 Basics provides to some vulnerable members of our community.

Unfortunately, Council has been responding to complaints about this establishment, as operations are being undertaken all hours of the day from a residential premise which is negatively impacting neighbouring properties, including issues of traffic, noise and the visual impact on the local amenity. BK 2 Basics is conducting warehousing and distribution services from a residential premise which does not meet the Casey Planning Scheme requirements.

Planning Officers have therefore requested the organisation seek alternative premises to undertake their activities from. The City of Casey provided an additional two months (until 29 August) from the original notice advising Ms Warren that she is in breach of planning regulations, for Bk 2 Basics to seek an alternative location.

Council officers have been actively assisting Ms Warren through direct approaches to members of the business community and other like-minded organisations with potentially suitable premises. Council will continue to use its contacts to try to assist Bk 2 Basics to locate appropriate premises.

The City of Casey is providing $822,000 through this year's grants program to help fund community organisations across the city. This includes $81,063 specifically for emergency relief - food and meals programs and material aid - projects.
