Stolen car crash, Rosslea

Police have charged a man following a traffic crash involving an alleged stolen vehicle on Sunday night.

It will be alleged around 6pm a stolen 2007 Hyundai Elantra was observed in the car park of a motel on Bowen Road.

Upon approach of specialist officers, it is further alleged the driver attempted to flee and crashed into the back of an unmarked police vehicle.

The car then left along Bowen Road.

A 36-year-old man was arrested at a Belgian Gardens address just after 10am today and was taken to the Townsville Watchhouse.

He has been charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving of a motor vehicle without a licence, evade police and serious assault of a police officer.

The man is due to appear before the Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow (March 2).

Anyone with further information is urged to contact police.

Investigations are continuing and the vehicle had not been located at time of this release.
