Stolen vehicle crashes in Avalon

Police are appealing for public assistance after a stolen vehicle crashed on the Princes Freeway at Avalon in the early hours of Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to the freeway near Avalon Road about 1.30am, 29 May, after reports of a single vehicle crash.

Witnesses have told investigators the white 2019 Honda Civic hatchback was travelling westbound at a high rate of speed before it lost control and collided into a barrier.

The vehicle had been stolen from an address in Highton on 28 May about 12.50pm.

Two unknown males were seen exciting the vehicle following the crash and fleeing the scene on foot.

The Police Airwing and members of the Dog Squad were deployed but the offenders were unable to be located.
