The City of Stonnington has introduced new recycling bins at Harold Holt Swim Centre and Prahran Aquatic Centre, allowing patrons to dispose of used wristbands responsibly and help reduce single-use soft plastic waste.
Wristbands are an essential part of the safety and access systems at our pools, used daily for Watch Around Water supervision and entry to spa, sauna and steam areas.
Unfortunately, wristbands are both soft plastic and single-use, meaning they can quickly take a toll on our environment.
To address this, we have partnered with APR Plastics and RecycleSmart, who have tested and confirmed wristbands can be recycled through their soft plastics recycling system.
This initiative forms part of Council's broader commitment to sustainability and responsible waste management.
While re-use remains our preferred approach wherever possible, this recycling initiative is a simple but powerful step forward in reducing waste and protecting our environment.
Aquatic patrons are encouraged to place their used wristbands in the dedicated recycling bins located near exit points.
