Strand Water Park 2-week Maintenance Shutdown

A Townsville fan favourite will have its taps turned off for 2 weeks to undergo maintenance as the Townsville weather cools.

Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said Council would be undertaking maintenance of the Strand Water Park from Monday 2 June 2025.

"The Water Park sees more than 150,000 visitors each year, so every now and then we need to close down for scheduled maintenance," Cr Greaney said.

"Last year, the Water Park went through a fairly significant overhaul which included reviving mechanical elements and a complete repaint, but this year we're replacing the switchboard and undertaking some maintenance repairs.

"We know how well-utilised the Water Park is, so it's critical we timed the project correctly, which is why we waited till the cooler winter months when usage typically drops to get the works done before the school holidays.

"Council prides ourselves on the quality services we deliver for our community, which includes maintaining our assets, but with 150,000 sets of feet running around every year, it is inevitable things will break and wear over time.

"While the Water Park may be closed temporarily, there is still plenty of free and low-cost spaces to take a dip, including the Strand Rockpool, Riverway Lagoons and our public pools."

The Strand Water Park will be closed from Monday 2 June and will reopen to the public on Saturday 14 June 2025.
