The Morrison Government's commitment to world-leading research is continuing, with funding for 65 new projects announced today.
Minister for Education and Youth Alan Tudge said the almost $30 million worth of Linkage Projects grants would link Australian universities with key industry partners on projects that will strengthen Australia's future.
"The Morrison Government is encouraging greater university-industry partnerships in research," Minister Tudge said.
"We are also injecting record funding into our universities, including an additional $1 billion for university research in last year's budget.
"These projects will keep Australia at the forefront of important technological research, and they have the potential to create real-world advances in agriculture, renewable energy and space technology."
The new research projects, funded through the Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Projects scheme, include:
- $934,000 to test and evaluate a new plasma engine capable of speeds in excess of 10000 km/hr. This has the potential to change the face of hypersonic flight and space access. The project is a collaboration between The University of Queensland, Lockheed Martin (Australia and US) and Defence Science and Technology Group.
- $780,000 to develop an innovative Liquid Organic Hydrogen Storage technology that will cultivate Australia's hydrogen energy industry, enhance fuel security and protect the environment. This project is a collaboration between The Australian National University, The University of New South Wales, Global Power Generation Australia, Hydrogenia, Evoenergy and Illuminact.
- $400,000 to scale up satellite communications for the Internet of Things (IoT) to deliver high quality data services to vast numbers of devices in regional and remote areas, including in the mining and farming sectors. This project is a collaboration with Macquarie University and Myriota.
The ARC accepts applications under the Linkage Projects scheme on a continuous basis, with successful grants announced throughout the year. Linkage Projects must include at least one partner organisation and match government funding.
