The Albanese Government's second Budget delivers significant investments in myGov and provides greater support to Australians during natural disasters.
As part of our plan to create more opportunities for more people in more parts of the country, the 2023-24 Budget includes substantial funding to strengthen services for Australians.
Investing in a better myGov
More people use myGov than commuters use public transport each day, and they rightly expect it to be contemporary, secure and easy to use.
Funding of $134.5 million will sustain recent myGov advancements, including the new modernised online platform and recent introduction of the myGov app.
It will also maintain the inroads made towards streamlined and secure digital credentials, with Medicare cards now available in the myGov app.
Australians know that myGov is essential national infrastructure, and this was confirmed by the recent independent myGov audit. This funding will consolidate our investment in myGov as the Government continues to formalise and prioritise next steps from the audit in the coming months. The Government has provisioned ongoing funding for myGov.
The investment in myGov ensures there is lasting certainty and stability for this essential government service as we formalise next steps.
The former Liberal Government would not commit to the future of myGov. Labor will make sure it is funded into the future.
Strengthening Emergency Response
In 2023-24, Services Australia will also receive $231.8 million to advance its strong emergency response capability.
When Australians are in need, Services Australia is there. The agency supported Australians through nine natural disasters last year, paying out $1.5 billion for the 2022-23 financial year in support.
The Albanese Government is providing certainty for this top priority, with dedicated, trained staff ready to be quickly mobilised during disasters to support communities, including on-the-ground emergency assistance.
This investment has never been more important, with Australians facing increased and unrelenting emergencies as a result of climate change.
These investments are in line with the Government's commitment to giving all Australians access to the best possible government services, and support where and when they need it.
