Students wheelie spoked for National Ride2School Day

The sound of bicycle bells was ringing in the air across the Sunshine Coast today as more than 2000 school students across or region cycled & scooted to school for National Ride2School Day.

The annual event encourages children across Australia to get physically active and pedal, skate or scoot on their journey to school.

Caloundra State School Principal Brendan Bopf said the school was extremely proud to see so many of its students participate in Australia's largest celebration of active travel.

"Making students aware of the great benefits for their health and the environment is a very important lesson that students need to be learning early in their lives," Mr Bopf said.

"We notice some very positive differences in our students who do tend towards active transport when travelling to school. They are ready for school, ready to learn and ready to have a go when challenges arise. Learning the value of exercise early is the key, it gets the brain moving too."

Caloundra State School Year 6 student Archie White said it was a huge thrill to be among the nearly half a million students around Australia who took part in National Ride2School Day today.

"I love riding my bike to school because it always gives me more energy and makes me feel better about my day. It was lots of fun today to have more of my friends from class riding with me to school," Archie said.
