Subway Young Socceroos start preparations for AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2023 following draw

The Subway Young Socceroos have discovered who they will meet in the group stage of the AFC U-20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023™ following the draw ceremony on Wednesday evening.

Fresh from their qualification last week in Kuwait City, the Australians have been drawn in Group B alongside 2016 Semi-finalists Vietnam, Qatar who were the 2014 champions and advanced to the Finals with an undefeated record, and IR Iran who will be looking to end their 47-year title drought at this level during the tournament to be contested 1 - 18 March, 2023.

Following the Draw, Subway Young Socceroos Head Coach Trevor Morgan said: "We are very proud to have qualified for the 2023 Under 20 AFC Asian Cup in Uzbekistan.

This will be a great tournament in a nation that successfully hosted the AFC Under 23 Asian Cup earlier this year and I look forward to returning with the Young Socceroos.

"I know the players are really excited by the opportunity that lies ahead, but they also know they must keep performing at club level to compete for selection and be ready for the Asian Cup.

"The draw allows us to start learning more about our opponents and venue for the group stage.

"As we do our research and get to know the opposition, we can prepare and focus on the way to progress in the tournament, giving ourselves the best opportunity to challenge for the title and qualify for 2023 FIFA Under 20 World Cup," Morgan concluded.

The AFC U-20 Asian Cup™ is back after a hiatus of four years and features the 10 group winners and five best runners-up from the Qualifiers, along with hosts Uzbekistan.

Besides continental glory, there will be four tickets at stake for the FIFA U20 World Cup 2023™, which will return to Asia in Indonesia from May 20 to June 11, 2023.
