As the result of an ongoing investigation into a water leak affecting the indoor 25m pool at the Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre (SALC), discovered on Friday 12 May, the issue has been found to be more complicated than first anticipated.
Pipework alongside the pool was initially identified as damaged. On further investigation, we now know the pipework under the pool shell is also damaged. We expect we'll need to close the pool for up to 12 weeks for the repairs to occur.
The closure will also apply to the spa and steam room located in the 25m pool area.
The gym will remain open as usual, and the Warm Water Pool will be open for extended hours, with some changes to how it's used.
To get us through this time and minimise class disruptions, a number of Learn to Swim classes will be relocated to the Warm Water Pool.
We aim to accommodate as many classes as possible by making the Warm Water Pool "lessons only" between 4pm - 7pm weekdays, and 8am - 12pm Saturdays. During these times members and patrons will not be able to access the Warm Water pool area.
People who attend Aqua Aerobic classes will be offered low impact 'dry' classes as an alternative. Aqua classes will be available at SPLASH Aqua Park and Leisure Centre or Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
We are also reopening the SALC 50m Outdoor Pool to accommodate lap swimmers, swim squads and our more advanced Learn to Swim classes. The water will be heated, with extra temporary shelters added to make the experience as warm as possible over these chilly winter months.
We are working towards having the 50m outdoor pool available the week of Tuesday 13 June, but will communicate once closer to the date.
All members continue to have the option of attending SPLASH Aqua Park and Leisure Centre or Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre if they wish to access aquatic facilities. However, if members wish to suspend their membership during this time, they can fill out a membership suspension form.
