Sunbury intercept

Officers from Macedon Highway Patrol detected a car travelling well and truly over the speed limit in Sunbury last night.

Police were on the Calder Freeway about 10.20pm when they detected a Holden sedan travelling at 189km/h in a 100km/h zone.

The members followed the vehicle and attempted to get the driver to pull over, which he eventually did in Wilsons Lane, Sunbury.

The driver, a 50-year-old man from Sunbury, refused to undergo a preliminary oral fluid test and drove off.

He is expected to be charged with driving at dangerous speed, failing to stop on police direction and refuse preliminary oral fluid test.

This intercept forms part of Operation Arid, a state-wide road policing operation aimed at keeping the community safe on Victorian roads over the Labour Day long weekend.

Operation Arid will run from 12.01am on Friday 11 March until 11.59pm on Monday 14 March.
