Support for small business to thrive and grow

Small business owners looking to create a strong online presence or strengthen their business practices are encouraged to take advantage of free workshops being held by the City of Greater Geelong.

Our Economic Development team supports hundreds of local businesses each year and promotes investment to drive economic growth through a range of workshops, free advice, initiatives and funding opportunities. It is committed to providing new and existing businesses with the right advice and relevant information.

We're hosting two upcoming sessions at our Wurriki Nyal Civic Precinct on Mercer Street, Geelong:

Taking yourBusiness Online

Thursday 27 April, 9:30am to 11:30am

Develop an understanding of how to set up an online presence for your business, benefits of having a website, hardware and software requirements and how to protect your business in a digital world.

Strengthening Business Practices

Thursday 25 May, 9:30am to 12:30pm

Receive short-term constructive advice to support business recovery, tools for longer-term future crisis planning and business risk awareness and prevention tips.

Register for these free sessions to avoid disappointment.

Each month, we offer free one-on-one business mentoring sessions in conjunction with SBMS to provide general advice and assistance to overcome an issue or information gap. Sessions are in high demand and if all sessions are filled, contact the Economic Development team to discuss further options.

Last year, the Economic Development team supported more than 3,000 small businesses via COVID business support, the Business Concierge service, mentoring services, events and advice.

Our Business Concierge service is a dedicated contact point at the City for small businesses, and a vital first step for starting a small business, for advice on permits and tips for setting up and operating your business.

We support a number of resources from other government and educational organisations that are available, including courses on social media and email marketing, starting a small business and cybersecurity.
