Supporting Tasmania's most vulnerable during holiday season

Members,

While the Rockliff Liberal Government is investing unprecedented levels of funding to target homelessness, we understand that many people will still face hardship and require help this holiday season.

Housing Connect is Tasmania's one-stop shop for housing assistance and it is also there to help over the holiday season, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Emergency accommodation and material support is available for people in a housing crisis. It may include a shelter placement (in crisis or transitional accommodation); brokered accommodation in a hotel, motel or caravan park; or an overnight bed in a Safe Space facility.

Emergency accommodation is available for young people, women with or without children, men with or without children, and families.

I was pleased to be able to visit the Housing Connect office in Launceston today to meet many of the amazing, hardworking staff and seeing first-hand the vitally important service they deliver.

I would like to say a personal thank you to all Housing Connect staff, in all their offices around the State, for your work and dedication to helping our most vulnerable residents.

Over the Christmas and New Year period, Housing Connect offices will be closed to face-to-face appointments, as follows: (noting if Tasmanians need support they should call 1800 800 588);

  • Rosny office, suites 3 and 4, 13 Bayfield Street, will be closed from 5pm, Friday 23 December and reopen on Tuesday, 3 January 2023.

Homes Tasmania offices will be closed to face-to-face appointments from 3pm, Friday, 23 December and reopen on Tuesday, 3 January 2023.

We know that family violence is a major cause of homelessness. The Tasmanian Government is committed to eliminating family violence and supporting victim-survivors through increasing the supply of emergency accommodation facilities to support those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

If you or someone you know is experiencing family violence and needs urgent assistance, phone police on Triple Zero (000) or the Safe at Home Family Violence Response and Referral Line on 1800 633 937.

The Rockliff Liberal Government knows there is more to do, which is why we are investing more than $36 million each year in wrap-around services to ensure those who need help now are getting the services they need.
